TUNISIAN CROCHET WORKSHOPS COMING THIS SUMMER

There has been a massive upsurge in interest in Tunisian Crochet this year.  So in response to requests to teach it I am currently setting up workshops in June and July to pass on this skill.

Tunisian crochet is sometimes called Afghan Crochet or Tricot.¬† It is easy to learn, and you don’t need any prior knowledge of crochet to start.¬†

I will post details as soon as each workshop is finalised.  Please watch this space for information!

Here are some examples of how to turn a small piece of work into a pretty bracelet.

Aberdeen Yarnfest 2018

Check my workshop out at the Aberdeen Yarnfest on Sunday 13th May.  It runs from 10.00 am to 1.00pm at the Doubletree Aberdeen Treetops hotel.  I made the A5 journal cover below using Sublime silk yarn in two shades, and a maroon synthetic silk background.

“Therapeutic crochet ‚Äď Exploring Tunisian and Broomstick techniques.”

 How to make Broomstick lace.

How to work 4 basic Tunisian stitches.

Participants will complete a small project incorporating these steps during the workshop.

FUNADAY DUNDEE

Sam Baxter Рsambaxterart Рhas very kindly sent me these photographs of my work  from the above event.  Thanks for all  the hard work you put into this event Sam!

FUN A DAY DUNDEE 12 FEBRUARY 2017

Big huge thanks to all of you in the Fun A Day Dundee team for all the hard work you put into this event. It was an absolute pleasure to take part.

Here are a few more photographs of the fun I had.  Enjoy!

FUN A DAY DUNDEE

Thanks for all the fun Dundee Fun A Day!

(It all started off on Hogmanay when somebody handed me a strange object and asked – “What can you do with this? Take it away and have a go!” So my Funaday project was finding out what I could do with a six foot shed skin from a boa constrictor!)

If you want to see what I did come along to the FunADay Exhibition this weekend.

It’s in WASP studios, Meadowmill, West Henderson Wynd, Dundee. ¬†The opening night is on Friday 10 February from 7 – 9pm. ¬†The Exhibition runs from 10.00am –¬†7.00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Here are some photographs I took of the fun I had during the month.

FUN A DAY DUNDEE DAY 3-5 – FOZZICKING ABOUT WITH CROCHET

  • Experimenting with 4mm hook and DK weight cotton.
  • Different ideas, quintuple treble, Irish net grounds, Irish net fill-ins.
  • Work vertically or horizontally?
  • Been worked up and rattled down a few times before reasonably happy with these two different sides.
  • A few problems to solve still.

Fun A Day Dundee 2 January 2017

Well, I’m a crochet tutor! So the first thing I saw when I looked at this shed snakeskin was a beautiful lacy crochet pattern. Don’t know quite how it would turn out or what I might use it for. Maybe give this a try out sometime and see if it can be made into a working pattern. Probably would need a more delicate name than Boa’s Belly Stitch though!

Fun A Day 1 January 2017

Last night somebody handed me an strange object (as they do on Hogmanay) and said “What could¬†you make from this? ¬†Take it away and see what you can do with it.”

So my Fun A day project is going to be – working out what I can do with the shed skin from a six foot boa constrictor.

First take photographs of¬†it in all it’s complex beauty. Here are four of them.
